Moving to another city in Serbia – what to know before you go
Moving to another city? Planning, packing for a longer drive and avoiding unnecessary costs.
Moving to another city takes a bit more planning than a move within Belgrade. The drive is longer, the crew spends the whole day on the road, and every forgotten item means another trip. Here is what to keep in mind.
Book the date in time
An intercity move usually takes the whole day, so it is good to agree on a date a few weeks in advance. Also check when you can enter the new home – you need the keys on moving day.
Packing for a longer drive
- Fill boxes to the top – half-empty boxes collapse under the weight of others.
- Protect fragile items twice as well as for a short drive.
- Furniture gets extra blankets and film, because a longer drive means more vibration.
- Empty wardrobe and dresser drawers or tape them shut.
What to carry yourself
Carry documents, cash, jewellery, medicines, chargers and things for your first day in the new city yourself, in your car or bag. That way you have them even if you arrive before or after the truck.
Parking at both addresses
Check where the vehicle can stop in front of the old and the new building. In some city centres a permit is needed or parking is paid – better to know in advance than to search when the crew arrives.
What the price of an intercity move depends on
- Mileage – a significant item for intercity moves.
- Vehicle size – one trip by truck is often cheaper than two trips by van.
- Floor and lift at both addresses.
- Furniture disassembly and assembly.
